Spencer Smith
Spencer Smith is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Denver in theatre and music. He holds an IMA from Antioch University McGregor in Performing Arts. Mr. Smith sang for twenty seven years with the New York City Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Philharmonic, and numerous New York regional opera companies. After retiring from the professional stage, Spencer began his second career as a vocal music teacher and conductor at Ardsley High School. In 2009, the Select Chorus of Ardsley High School toured Italy, including singing a Mass at the Vatican, and concerts at Gallicano and Lucca. In 2010, this award winning group sang at Notre Dame, Chateau Chambord and Eglise de la Madeleine. In 2013 the Select Chorus sang a Mass at St. Mark’s Basilica and two concerts in Italy. In January of 2014 the Select chorus sang the National Anthem at Madison Square Garden at a nationally televised Knicks game. In 2015 the Select Chorus sang a high Mass in Salzburg, and concerts in Vienna, and Prague.
At Ardsley High School, Mr. Smith has conducted the Senior Revue and many American musicals including: The Producers, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and The Sound of Music. In 2010 and 2011 the Select Chorus won “Best Chorus” in the Music in the Parks competition.
