In third grade general music we sing, play instruments, move, listen, and work together to create and understand music. We name and play the notes of the treble clef, focusing on reading middle C to A. We work in 4/4 to solidify and expand our rhythmic vocabulary through eighth notes and rests. We read and play simple tonal and rhythmic patterns. We explore contrasts of major and minor, fast and slow tempos, dynamic changes, and performing with blend and balance. We work with verse and chorus, repeat signs, and ABA form. We identify and categorize what we hear. We explore music as an important part of culture around the world, shadowing classroom studies. We dance, we play games, we watch musicians perform.
