Reading Workshop
Second graders are engaged in many different activities during the Reading Workshop, such as guided reading, word study, independent reading, and reading response. Although guided reading is differentiated, all students are strengthening their reading by working on their fluency and expression as well as thinking within, beyond, and about the texts. They are learning how to summarize and search for evidence as well as think about how text is organized and what the author does to keep readers interested. In addition, a variety of texts are read aloud and children participate in thoughtful conversations throughout the books.
Writing Workshop
In Writing Workshop, second graders learn to write personal narratives, informational texts, and opinion pieces. They also respond to literature. Second graders experience the writing process from start to finish. Your writer will learn to plan their writing using Thinking Maps. Students will draft, revise, edit and publish their writing. We will publish and share several pieces this school year.
