Mission
Promote and improve instruction at Ardsley Schools through active learning environments, establish and advance a framework for digital wellness and provide ongoing professional development to support the effective use of technology in the classroom.
The K–12 Computer Science Framework
We envision a future in which students critically engage in public discussion on computer science topics; develop as learners, users, and creators of computer science knowledge and artifacts; better understand the role of computing in the world around them; and learn, perform, and express themselves in other subjects and interests.
Beginning in the earliest grades and continuing through 12th grade, students will develop a foundation of computer science knowledge and learn new approaches to problem-solving that harness the power of computational thinking to become both users and creators of computing technology. By applying computer science as a tool for learning and expression in a variety of disciplines and interests, students will actively participate in a world that is increasingly influenced by technology.
Active Learning Environments
In order for students to be prepared for college and careers in an interconnected and interdependent world they must be digitally literate, they must be creative and critical thinkers, and they must be discerning consumers of information.
Priorities for Ardsley Schools Technology Curriculum
Digital Wellness
As members of the global digital community, students and educators must be prepared for the responsibilities that come with living a balanced and healthy digital lifestyle. With this in mind, we intend for students to have an understanding of the role that digital wellness plays in the broader picture of their own individual health and well-being.
Ongoing Professional Development
Provide learning opportunities for staff to enrich, modify, and redefine technology integration into their practice, and create a culture that is empowering for our lifelong learners. Continue to support teachers in the integration of advanced technology applications to improve instruction, enhance student engagement and maximize learning in a 21st-century classroom.
New York State K-12 Computer Science and Digital Fluency Learning Standards
For New York State students to lead productive and successful lives upon graduation, they must understand and know how to use digital technologies. Technology knowledge and skills are vital for full participation in 21st Century life, work, and citizenship. As New Yorkers, we must prepare all students to live and work in our dynamic, technology-driven 21st-Century world. This imperative is the basis of the vision for the New York State K-12 Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards.
Vision for the CS & DF Standards
Every student will know how to live productively and safely in a technology-dominated world. This includes understanding the essential features of digital technologies, why and how they work, and how to communicate and create using those technologies.
The New York State K12 Computer Science and Digital Fluency Learning Standards were adopted by the Board of Regents in December 2020. The new standards focus on five key concepts:
Each concept contains two or more sub-concepts and within the sub-concepts are a number of standards. The standards are grouped into grade bands: K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-8, and 9-12. Instruction in the standards must be implemented so as to allow students to achieve the applicable standards by the end of the band.
